FAMILY
VIOLENCE TREATMENT AND EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
MEMBERSHIP
INFORMATION
FAVTEA is comprised
of Batterer Intervention Providers and mental health professionals
who are concerned about the problem of family violence and the narrow
lens through which it is currently viewed. We provide clinical services
to perpetrators of partner and child abuse, and their families.
Our members present trainings and seminars, attend community meetings,
and work cooperatively with law enforcement, victim advocates, other
mental health professionals and faith-based organizations. FAVTEA
maintains a web site (www.FAVTEA.com), sponsors an annual training
conference, hosts special events and community forums, and publishes
a newsletter, the FAVTEA Bulletin, twice per year. Local
members meet quarterly to exchange information and resources, plan
activities and address matters regarding public policy on family
violence. Members from outside the San Francisco Bay Area keep in
touch by phone and e-mail.
To
join FAVTEA, contact John Hamel at (415) 472-3275 or JohnMHamel@comcast.net.
If you live in the Bay Area, arrange to attend one of our quarterly
meetings. FAVTEA meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm the last Wednesday
in March, June, and September, and the third Wednesday in December,
in Berkeley, California. To join, you must be either a Certified
Batterer Intervention Program Provider, a licensed therapist with
experience and expertise in the field of family violence, or an
experienced victim’s advocate. In addition, you must adhere
to our association’s goals and objectives, and have a research-based,
gender-inclusive, systems approach to intervention, and obtain approval
by a majority of FAVTEA voting members.
