FAMILY VIOLENCE TREATMENT AND EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

FAVTEA is comprised of Batterer Intervention Providers and mental health professionals who are concerned about the problem of family violence and the narrow lens through which it is currently viewed. We provide clinical services to perpetrators of partner and child abuse, and their families. Our members present trainings and seminars, attend community meetings, and work cooperatively with law enforcement, victim advocates, other mental health professionals and faith-based organizations. FAVTEA maintains a web site (www.FAVTEA.com), sponsors an annual training conference, hosts special events and community forums, and publishes a newsletter, the FAVTEA Bulletin, twice per year. Local members meet quarterly to exchange information and resources, plan activities and address matters regarding public policy on family violence. Members from outside the San Francisco Bay Area keep in touch by phone and e-mail.

To join FAVTEA, contact John Hamel at (415) 472-3275 or JohnMHamel@comcast.net. If you live in the Bay Area, arrange to attend one of our quarterly meetings. FAVTEA meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm the last Wednesday in March, June, and September, and the third Wednesday in December, in Berkeley, California. To join, you must be either a Certified Batterer Intervention Program Provider, a licensed therapist with experience and expertise in the field of family violence, or an experienced victim’s advocate. In addition, you must adhere to our association’s goals and objectives, and have a research-based, gender-inclusive, systems approach to intervention, and obtain approval by a majority of FAVTEA voting members.

Membership is based on a three-tier system :

  1. Clinical membership - Pay a one-time $50.00 initiation fee, and dues of $75.00 twice per year (due October 1 and April 1.) Allowed to vote and make all final decisions on FAVTEA business, listed on FAVTEA literature and included on the website. Clinical members are included in the “General Resources” section of the website, and are also listed under “Organizational Contacts,” based on the areas in which they practice. Clinical members may have as many web pages as they want, or have a link to their own individual website (each member is responsible for his or her own web master expenses.)
  2. Associate membership – No initiation fee, dues of $25.00 twice per year. Allowed to participate in all regularly-scheduled quarterly meetings, and to attend the annual training event for free. Associate members also get a free subscription to the FAVTEA Bulletin, and special consideration (over non-members) when submitting stories and articles. Associate members are listed in the “General Resources” section of the web site.
  3. General membership - For individuals outside the San Francisco Bay Area who cannot attend quarterly meetings. No initiation fee, dues of $25.00 once per year (due April 1.) Get $25.00 discount on all trainings, e-mail copies of the quarterly meeting minutes, and a free subscription to the newsletter. General members are listed in the “National Resources” section of the web site.
